Soprano MIA MALIT-CRUZ (b. 1995) was born and raised in Legazpi City, Philippines. Mia began voice lessons at age 5. She was accepted to the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Music where she studied voice, choral conducting, composition, and other instrument minors such as piano and harp. She has participated in several singing ensembles including UP Chorus, Ho’olokahi Chamber Choir, Seasider Singers, and several religious choirs.
Mia is currently working towards obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music in Vocal Performance at Brigham Young University – Hawaii, studying voice under Dr. Melissa Walker-Glenn and conducting under Dr. Erica Glenn. She recently participated in the 2022 National Association of Teachers of Singing Cal-Western Regional Conference in the Upper College Classical Treble Voice Category and qualified to advance to nationals. Her upcoming Junior Recital will feature works from all-female composers including Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, Clara Schumann, Pauline Viardot, and Maria Szymanowska. Current research interests include works by 19th and 20th C Filipina composers Dolores Paterno and Resureccion Bunyi.
